Overview of Our System
412 Martial Arts was founded by 6th Degree Black Belt, Sensei Eric Rugh, and 1st Degree Black Belt, Sensei Rachel Becker. The system is based around the philosophy that the practitioner will have the knowledge, skillset, and confidence to protect themselves in any self-defense situation. Encompassing the most effective techniques from six different styles of martial arts and unifying them into one, this blending of styles creates a strong individual and the formation of a well-rounded martial artist. In essence – a better person. Confidence is built on being prepared for any street situation, and 412 Martial Arts strives to build that confidence in any individual who studies it.
412 Martial Arts is made up of long-range combat (kicks) from the art of Tae Kwon Do, mid-range combat (punches) from Bando Boxing, and close-range combat (elbows / knees) from Muay Thai. Another big aspect of self-defense in the system includes takedowns, locks, throws, ground fighting, pressure points, and submissions from Aikido and Kempo. Traditional kata (forms) from the style of Shorinryu is also taught for those students who have an interest in the traditional/competitive side of the martial arts. In blending these six styles together, a well-rounded martial artist is formed.
The belt progression of 412 Martial Arts is different than most other styles of martial art. The ranking is as follows: white, yellow, orange, red, green, blue, purple, brown, and then black belt. If you look at the progression of those colors, they represent sunrise to sunset. Although the sun sets at night, we know that it will rise again each morning to start a new day full of learning, growth, and opportunity. We at 412 Martial Arts believe that the martial arts is much like the sun. Achieving the rank of black belt does not mean the practitioner has reached the end of his/her journey. It means that they have just began a new chapter full of new perspectives and opportunities for growth. Black belt is not the end—it is the beginning.
